Lab Testing
What is lab testing?
At Two River Allergy and Asthma Group, Dr. Yang offers lab testing for a number of health conditions. The testing takes place at an outside facility. Types of lab testing include:
- ImmunoCAP test for allergies (food and environmental)
- Immune system deficiencies in patients with recurrent infections
- Evaluation of chronic hives
He may also request other lab tests specific to your needs after your comprehensive evaluation.
Why might I need lab testing?
Dr. Yang determines if you need lab testing during your consultation.
For allergies, Dr. Yang may recommend a blood test if you can’t undergo skin testing because you have a history of anaphylaxis, you use antihistamines, or you have a skin condition such as hives or eczema. The allergy blood test measures the level of immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies in your blood. Higher than normal levels may indicate an allergy.
Dr. Yang also recommends lab testing to assist in the diagnosis of immunodeficiency disorders, as well as for his patients suffering from chronic hives to identify potential underlying issues responsible for the skin condition.
When can I expect results from my lab testing?
An outside lab completes your testing. Depending on the type of testing you need, it may take a few days to a few weeks to get results. Dr. Yang reviews details of what to expect during your consultation and contacts you when he has your results.
When would I need diagnostic imaging?
In addition to lab testing, Dr. Yang also recommends diagnostic imaging to assist in the diagnosis of various health conditions. He most often recommends diagnostic imaging tests for his patients with lung conditions such as:
- Asthma
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Pneumonia
He may also recommend diagnostic imaging for patients with chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps, or other sinus diseases.
Dr. Yang may request X-rays or CT scans, which take place at an area hospital or radiology center. Dr. Yang usually receives the report from the radiologist soon after the test and reviews the results with you. In some cases, he may request you undergo diagnostic imaging prior to your appointment and bring a copy of your X-ray or CT scan with you.
Lab testing provides Dr. Yang with valuable information that helps him better understand your health issues so he can design an effective treatment plan. To schedule a consultation, contact Two River Allergy and Asthma Group by phone or online today.
